Lymphocyte immunization Therapy holds much potential as a safe and effective treatment approach for patients who have failed IVF or repeated miscarriages.

Selection of a couple for LIT Therapy depends on many factors. Some of these factors are as follows :

  • History of Recurrent miscarriages :  more than or equal to 2 miscarriages
  • Rule out known causes of Recurrent miscarriages : Patients with chromosomal structural endocrine and autoimmune causes of miscarriage should be excluded.
  • Laboratory criteria : Studies  have suggested the need for laboratory criteria to identify couples who may benefit from LIT, as well as for the evaluation after LIT, before allowing the couple to attempt a new pregnancy. These tests are as follows:
    • Lymphocyte crossmatch : cross-match between the serum of patients and the spouse’s lymphocytes to detect anti-lymphocyte maternal antibodies. Couples with negative crossmatch are selected for LIT therapy and are benefited by LIT therapy
    • Estimation of peripheral blood NK cells : CD3 and CD16+56
    • Assessment of Treg cells and Th17 cells : Decreased Treg:Th17 ratio is an indication for LIT therapy
    • Assessment of  Th-1 : Th-2 cytokine ratio : Increased Th1:Th2 cytokine ratio is an indication for LIT therapy
    • assessment of endometrial NK cells : Presence of CD57/CD56/CD69 in the endometrium  is an indication for LIT therapy

    • Sr. TNF alpha : Patients with raised Sr. TNF alpha are benefited by LIT therapy
